Korloy WNMG080412-HM PC9030: PVD TiAlN coated double-sided insert for turning stainless steel. Tough, wear-resistant, excellent finish under interrupted cutting. Ideal for automotive, aerospace & mould shops.
The Korloy WNMG080412-HM PC9030 is a premium turning insert designed to handle the demanding conditions of stainless steel machining. Its WNMG geometry provides a negative 80° trigon profile, double-sided with multiple cutting edges to maximize economy. The HM designation ensures high mechanical strength, while the PC9030 grade brings together an ultra-fine grain carbide substrate and a TiAlN PVD coating. This combination delivers superior toughness and wear resistance even at medium to low cutting speeds or in interrupted cuts, reducing edge chipping and built-up edges (BUE). It also performs well in dry or minimally cooled operations, thanks to its oxidation resistance.
“Cut stainless steel up to 30% longer without edge breakage — reduce tool changes and cost per component with Korloy WNMG080412-HM PC9030!”
Looking for excellent performance in tough stainless steel work? Meet the Korloy WNMG080412-HM PC9030 — built for long tool life, high wear resistance, and outstanding surface finish in interrupted & continuous turning.
Geometry: WNMG 80° trigon, negative double-sided insert, 12.7 mm inscribed circle (≈ “08”), 4.76 mm thickness, corner radius fits “12” size edge requirements.
Grade / Substrate / Coating: PC9030 – ultra-fine grain carbide substrate + PVD TiAlN coating.
Best for: Turning stainless steel (alloy & austenitic), especially where interrupted cutting or low/medium cutting speeds cause built-up-edge or chipping. It handles oxidation well even in dry or light coolant conditions.
Less downtime: Because PC9030 resists wear and chipping, inserts stay sharp longer, so fewer tool changes / stoppages.
Better surface finish: Sharp edges + anti-built-up-edge coating gives excellent finish even on difficult alloys.
High wear & oxidation resistance: TiAlN coating + fine substrate reduces notch wear, resists high heat, makes it suitable for dry or semi-wet cutting.
Reliable in tough conditions: Performs well in interrupted cuts which are harsh on most inserts.
Automotive, aerospace, die & mould, food processing (where stainless is common), medical device machining, general engineering involving stainless & heat-resistant alloys.
PC9030 is designed especially for stainless steel (austenitic, alloyed), especially when interrupted or light continuous turning causes built-up edge or chipping. It also resists oxidation, so it can perform in dry or lightly cooled environments.
Typical cutting speeds are medium to low for SS (exact values depend on stainless steel grade); feeds and depths depend on the job. Because this insert is tougher and coated, it allows somewhat higher speeds than uncoated inserts in comparable conditions, but always test & adjust. (Manufacturer gives examples with V ~150 m/min, feeds ~0.25 mm/rev for similar PC9030 inserts in SS.
By extending tool life (less frequent insert replacement), reducing downtime for tool changes, avoiding rework caused by poor finish or edge chipping, and performing reliably even under harsh conditions. That spreads your tooling costs over more parts.
Yes. The TiAlN PVD coating resists oxidation and helps avoid built-up edge, making the insert capable of performing well in dry or low lubrication environments. However, depending on the workload and machine rigidity, using coolant can still benefit life and finish.
The WNMG geometry is double-sided with multiple cutting edges. One WNMG insert typically gives you 2 usable sides with 2 cutting edges each (depending on corner radius and exact holder). Buying in packs (5, 10, etc.) gives quantity discounts; for high-volume shops, stocking bulk helps avoid delays.
