Korloy CNMG120412-HM PC9030: TiAlN-coated fine grain carbide turning insert built for medium/rough turning & interrupted cuts, especially in stainless steel.
The Korloy CNMG120412-HM PC9030 is a high-performance carbide turning insert designed for shops demanding durability, surface finish, and consistent performance under tough conditions. With its negative CNMG geometry, multiple corner radius options, ultra-fine grain carbide substrate and TiAlN PVD coating, this insert delivers excellent wear resistance, chipping resistance, and strong resistance to welding. It is especially well suited for turning operations on stainless steel, high temp alloys, and other hard-to-machine materials. Using this insert reduces repeat maintenance, improves surface finishes, and decreases your cost per part — whether you're in automotive, aerospace, die & mold, or general engineering. “Cut your tooling downtime in half & get superior surface finish — the Korloy CNMG120412-HM PC9030 insert lasts longer under heavy cuts and keeps your machines running smoother.”
Geometry: CNMG 80° diamond/negative insert, size 12 × 12 × ~4.76 mm, with various corner radii versions (e.g. 0.4, 0.8, 1.2 mm) for better edge strength.
Grade & Coating: PC9030 — a PVD TiAlN coating over ultra-fine grain carbide substrate. High resistance to wear, chipping, and weld-build up especially in tough materials
Machining Application: Best suited for turning operations; excels in heavy interrupted cuts & medium to rough turning, especially in stainless steels and other hard-to-cut alloys.
Less downtime: Because PC9030 handles heavy interruptions without chipping, you swap inserts less often.
Better surface finish: Sharp negative geometry + proper corner radius gives consistent finishes even on difficult materials.
High wear resistance & stability: The TiAlN coating plus fine grain substrate resists abrasion, welding & heat, so tooling costs per component drop.
Automotive components, aerospace structural parts, die & mold making, general engineering (shafts, spindles), tooling for stainless & heat resistant alloys in oil & gas, valves, pumps etc.
PC9030 is a PVD TiAlN-coated carbide grade from Korloy with ultra-fine grain substrate. Advantages include high wear resistance, good performance in interrupted cuts, reduced tendency for built-up edge (especially on stainless steel), and longer tool life.
It is engineered for turning operations — medium to rough turning and heavy interrupted cuts. It’s not ideal for finishing or facing unless using smaller corner radius; its strength is in aggressive machining, where durability matters.
Best with stainless steels and hard alloys; also works well with heat resistant superalloys. Less suited for very soft non-ferrous metals where coating might not be necessary.
Larger corner radius (e.g. 0.8-1.2 mm) increases strength and reduces chipping in rough / interrupted cuts. Smaller radius (e.g. 0.4 mm) gives sharper edges and better surface finish in light passes. Match your radius to depth of cut, part geometry & required finish.
While results vary by setup, users often report 20-50% longer tool life vs older or less coated inserts under similar heavy cutting conditions, due to better wear resistance, less downtime for insert changes, and fewer rejects owing to improved surface finish.
