1️⃣ “Get Longer Tool Life & Perfect Grooves — Even in Tough Materials.”
Geometry / Chip breaker: Part of Korloy’s MGMN (MGT) series — designed for grooving, turning, face-grooving, and multi-functional operations. The “04” indicates a 0.4 mm corner radius and “R” denotes right-hand orientation.
Cutting width: ~2.00 mm (200-series).
Relief / clearance: 7° major clearance angle.
Grade / Coating: PC5300 — a universal PVD-coated grade designed by Korloy, built with a tough substrate and high-temperature Ti-based coating for excellent high-speed performance and chipping resistance.
Compatibility / Applications: Excellent for grooving, parting-off, turning operations in steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and even heat-resistant alloys (S) according to Korloy’s grade-application guide.
Longer Insert Life: The PC5300 grade combines a wear-resistant PVD coating with a very tough substrate, minimizing edge chipping even under heavier or intermittent cuts.
Reduced Downtime: Fewer insert changes thanks to its durability = more productivity.
Stable Surface Finish: The flat cutting edge geometry (from the MGT system) ensures consistent surface quality, even in high-feed or repetitive grooving.
Versatility: One insert grade (PC5300) handles multiple materials; reduces the need for stocking many different grades.
Cost Efficiency: Double-edged / multi-edge geometry + long tool life lowers cost per component.
Automotive: shafts, keyways, housings
Aerospace: precision grooves in high-grade steels
Die & Mold: tight grooving, profiling
General Engineering: mixed-material production runs
Job shops & heavy industry where grooving and parting are frequent
The PC5300 grade is a universal PVD grade — it is designed for a wide range of materials, including steels (P), stainless steels (M), cast iron (K), and even some heat-resistant alloys (S).
200 = 2.00 mm cutting width (part of the MGMN 200 series)
04 = 0.4 mm corner radius
R = Right-hand orientation (direction of cut)
The MGMN (MGT) series uses a central chip-breaker plus specially placed convex dots on the top corners. This helps reduce chip width, improve chip control, and smooth chip flow — especially useful in grooving and turning.
According to Korloy’s MGT catalog, for MGMN200-M with PC5300 the recommended cutting speed (vc) is around 170 m/min (depending on material), with feed rates in the range of 0.003–0.010 mm/rev.
Because of its high toughness and wear-resistant coating, the PC5300 grade provides better chipping resistance, longer edge life, and reliable performance in a variety of materials. Compared to uncoated or lower-grade inserts, it offers reduced downtime, fewer insert changes, and better overall cost-efficiency. Korloy itself recommends PC5300 over some older grades for tougher applications
