APKT 1604 PDFR MA H01 is an APKT-shape carbide insert designed especially for aluminium machining. Grade H01 with MA chipbreaker delivers sharp cutting, high edge stability, excellent surface finish and reduced cost per component in turning & milling applications on soft alloys.
The APKT 1604 PDFR MA H01 carbide insert is engineered to deliver high performance in aluminium and aluminium alloy machining. Featuring APKT 1604 geometry with the MA chipbreaker, it enables superior chip control, minimal built-up edge and high feed capability. The H01 grade with polished top surface ensures sharp cutting edges, enabling high cutting speeds while preserving edge life. Ideal for turning and milling operations involving slotting, profiling, face milling on aluminium, this insert helps you:
Run with higher feed & speed due to less cutting resistance.
Achieve better surface finishes – smooth, clean, without chatter marks.
Reduce insert change-overs and machine downtime.
Lower tooling cost per component thanks to longer useful life in soft metals.
Whether you operate in automotive, die & mold, general engineering or aerospace (non-critical parts), this insert gives reliability and value. Sold in standard packs; we offer bulk volume pricing, fast delivery, and full support.
⚙️ Want longer tool life, faster cutting & slashed cost per component? Meet the APKT 1604 PDFR MA H01 — made to boost throughput while cutting tool‐change downtime.
When you’re machining aluminium parts and demand top surface finish and minimal wear, the APKT 1604 PDFR MA H01 delivers:
Key Features & Specs
Geometry: APKT 1604 with chipbreaker type “MA” optimized for aluminium applications. Size ISO 1604, “PDFR” style.
Grade / Coating: Grade H01, polished / uncoated (some “polished top surface”) for aluminium. Designed for sharp edges and high cutting speed.
Best for: Turning / Milling operations on aluminium & aluminium‐alloys. Excellent for lighter depth cuts, slots & profiling in soft materials where chip evacuation and edge sharpness matter.
Lesser downtime: sharp geometry & MA chipbreaker prevent clogging & reduce heat, so you change inserts fewer times.
Better surface finish: polished top & fine edge ensures minimal tool marks and smoother finish on soft metals.
High wear resistance: though uncoated, the H01 polish + geometry produce less wear under typical feeds/speeds for aluminium, meaning cost per piece comes down.
Consistent performance: reliable edge strength even in high feed ramping / slotting due to the APKT form.
Automotive (body panels, die cast aluminium parts)
Aerospace (non-critical aluminium components, lightweight structures)
Die & Mold (aluminium mold blocks, pattern plates)
General Engineering (fixtures, enclosures, soft alloy parts)
The H01 grade in this insert is a polished / uncoated finish designed for aluminium. The polish helps reduce built-up edge and improves surface quality. There is no aggressive coating (like TiN / TiAlN) on this particular version
Primarily turning and milling on aluminium/alloys — slotting, profiling, face-milling, light depth cuts. The MA chipbreaker geometry helps with chip removal and maintaining sharp edges in softer materials.
It’s not ideal. The geometry and grade are optimized for aluminium. For steels / harder materials you’d want different chipbreaker / grade combinations (e.g. ML, MM etc.).
It follows ISO 1604 insert form under APKT classification. For example, in the Toolmex catalog, APKT 1604 PDFR MA H01 has dimensions: I.C. (inscribed circle) approx 0.646 in (~16.4 mm), corner radius ~0.126 in, among others
