TNMG 160408 MS PR1125 – Full Specification & Benefits
The TNMG 160408 MS PR1125 is a premium turning (indexable) carbide insert designed to deliver high performance in stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys (HRSA) and general engineering steels. Its PVD-coated fine grain carbide substrate, combined with the MS chipbreaker style, gives excellent toughness and edge strength even under light interruptions. The geometry – 60° included angle, thickness ~ 4.76 mm and corner radius ~ 0.8 mm – ensures stable cutting & lower deflection.
Geometry: TNMG style insert, 60° included angle, edge length ~ 16.50 mm, thickness ≈ 4.76 mm, with corner radius 0.8 mm.
Grade: PR1125 — a conventional PVD-coated carbide specially engineered for stainless steel, heat-resistant steels, and general industrial steels.
Coating: PVD coating (TiAlN / thin fine surface coat) giving good fracture toughness, low cutting resistance, and reduced adhesion / edge build up.
Application: Best for turning operations — especially finishing to semi-finishing, light interruptions; works well also when machining stainless steel and HRSA, plus general engineering steels.
Why It’s a Best Seller
Less downtime: because its PVD coating and tough substrate resist chipping and edge failure, giving longer life per edge.
Better surface finish: thinner, fine-grain carbide + proper coating reduces built-up edge & improves finish, especially on stainless steel.
High wear resistance: resists flank & crater wear in general steel & HRSA; performs well in light interrupted cuts.
Application Industries
Automotive (engine blocks, shafts, transmission components)
Aerospace (especially in parts made from stainless steel / heat-resistant alloys)
Die & Mold (where surface finish & consistency are key)
General Engineering (shafts, housings, industrial machinery)

It performs best on stainless steels, heat-resistant alloys (HRSA), and general engineering steels. It’s especially strong when finishing or semi-finishing under light interruptions.
Corner radius is approx. 0.8 mm, thickness is about 4.76 mm, inscribed circle ~ 9.525 mm (IC) with 60° included angle.
PR1125 delivers a balanced combination: good wear resistance, toughness (less chipping), and stable performance in stainless / HRSA, especially in finishing/light interrupt cuts.
It’s designed more for finishing / semi-finishing and light interruptions. For heavy interruption or roughing, you may want a tougher grade or insert with stronger chipbreaker/radius more suited to those conditions.
Longer tool life reduces frequency of tool change; less rejects or rework due to better surface finish; stable performance reduces scrap. Over many parts, these savings add up significantly.
