Attention Machinists & Production Engineers — boost throughput, cut costs per part
Imagine running your cast-iron milling jobs longer without unexpected tool changeovers. The Korloy ONMX080608-MM PC6510 insert is built for exactly that. It offers enhanced wear resistance, reduced life deviation, and excellent surface finish—letting your shop push harder and stay stable.
Geometry / Insert Type: Octagonal (135°) negative insert in ONMX080608-MM designation (Neutral hand)
Dimensions: Inscribed circle ~ 20.2 mm, thickness 6 mm, corner radius 0.8 mm, fixing hole Ø 5.6 mm
Chip Breaker (MM): MM chip breaker designed for general & stable milling (good balance of smooth cutting and robustness)
Grade / Coating: PC6510, a PVD coated grade optimized for cast iron, with special surface treatment to resist thermal cracks, chipping & built-up edge formation
Application / Cutting Type: Primarily milling (face, slot, side, ramping) in cast iron workpieces (ductile cast iron, grey cast iron)
Performance: Compared to earlier PC6510 versions, the improved coating and geometry deliver more stable tool life and up to ~30 % more cutting volume in comparative tests
Less downtime / fewer insert changes: Stability in tool life means you’re less likely to get surprise failures mid-batch.
Better surface finish & integrity: The specialized coating and chip breaker resist BUE (built-up edge) and thermal cracks, which translates to cleaner surfaces.
High wear resistance: Especially on the relief face and cutting edges, leading to extended life under tough interrupted cuts.
Cost per component advantage: With 8 cutting edges, stable life, and fewer rejects or rework, your tooling cost per part drops.
Ideal where cast iron parts are common —
Automotive: engine blocks, cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, brake housings
Aerospace / Defense: cast-iron structural or auxiliary parts
Die & Mold: cast iron molds, housings, base plates
General Engineering / Heavy Equipment: pump housings, bearing blocks, infrastructure components
It is optimized for cast iron (both gray and ductile) milling applications — the chip breaker and coating are tuned for this. You may test it on some steels or alloyed materials, but its strength is in cast iron.
The octagonal, negative design gives you 8 cutting edges per insert (double-sided).
For cast iron, speeds in the mid to high ranges are possible thanks to the PC6510 grade’s stability. In Korloy tests, this grade showed up to ~30 % more cutting volume than earlier designs under comparable conditions
The insert is commonly supplied with a 0.8 mm corner radius in the ONMX080608-MM form.
Thanks to improved surface treatment and chip breaker design, this version delivers more consistent life with less deviation, better wear resistance, and improved chip behavior — which in practice means fewer surprises in production and lower cost per finished part.
